Joseph O'Neill

Joseph O'Neill
We, the family of Joseph Fraser O’Neill, regret to announce his passing on Tuesday, December 4, 2018. Born February 7, 1937, in Sydney, he was the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Healey) O’Neill. Joe spent most of his working career as a sheet metal worker and a stationary engineer. Before that, he and Joyce lived in Ontario, where he worked for a sign company, E. L. Ruddy. Joe had a love of reading, he had a special interest in things health and spiritual related. He passed that interest on to his children, always inviting them to sit with him when he had a book in his hands. In his younger days, Joe also enjoyed scuba diving. He gave his children fond memories of trips to Mira Gut, ice skating and biking and swimming at Gilholmes Lake. In the past few months, Joe had a renewed interest in living life to its fullest. He would be out on the town with Joyce wherever she went, as well as dining and enjoying local music with friends and family. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Joyce (Redmond); daughters, Sue MacPhee, Sydney and Lisa (Brad) Slater, Louisbourg; son, Joey (Dawn), Edmonton; sisters, Joan Richardson, New Brunswick and Margie Mroz, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Britney (Michael) MacNeil and Jeffrey MacPhee; great-grandchildren, Sophie MacPhee and Peter MacNeil; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his sister, Mary Theriault, twin sister, Ruth Gillis and brother, Bill. There will be no visitation or service. Interment will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail [email protected].
