Joseph Helaire Marchand

Funeral service for the late Joseph Helaire Marchand, 89, Antigonish/Louisdale, was held April 13 in St. Louis Church, Louisdale, with Father Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Mr. Marchand died April 1, 2019, in RK MacDonald Guest Home. Born June 28, 1929, he was a son of the late Alex and Elizabeth ‘Lizer’ (Sampson) Marchand. He was self-employed as a truck driver, hauling gravel to projects like the Canso Causeway, was a sheet metal worker, drove a school bus and was the caretaker for CN Railroad. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing cards. He is survived by five children, Terry (Janice), Perry (Anna George), Phil (Laurie), Kenneth (Lorelei), Mona Peeples (Arnold); 10 grandchildren, Chad (Mara), Holly (Todd), Janelle (James), Jillian (Byron), Breanne, Morgan, Lee (Andrea), Brittany (Devin), Corey (Tiffany), Colin (Shauna); nine great-grandchildren, Rhylan, Kinley, Easton, Jersie, Landon, Shaelynn, Brielle, Nixon, Hadley; sister, Marie Cordeau, Ontario. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Marina (Boudreau); five brothers, Alfred, Johnny, Walter, Felix, Alex; sister, Veronica Verado.
