JOSEPH EDWIN DECOSTE

Funeral service for the late Joseph 'Joe' Edwin DeCoste, 76, Antigonish, was held October 4 in St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Havre Boucher, with Father Allan MacPhie officiating. Burial was in St. Paul’s Cemetery.

Mr. DeCoste died September 29, 2019, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. 

Readers at the funeral Mass were Patricia DeCoste and Jimmy Carr. Krysten Pettipas and Nicole Meagher presented the offertory gifts. Music was provided by St. Paul’s Parish choir and Ty Wallace.

Honorary pallbearers were Garry Kell, Bradley Cleary, Arthur Williams, Sam Carr, Robbie Carr and Philip Meagher.

Born May 4, 1943, in Antigonish, he was the son of the late Victor and Margaret ‘Maggie’ (Casey) DeCoste. He was an accomplished finish carpenter who took great pride in his work.  In his later years, he enjoyed listening to his country classic music collection and playing crib with family and friends. He enjoyed a good hockey game and remained a loyal HABS fan.

He is survived by four children, Donnie DeCoste (Rajinder), Edmonton;  Julene DeCoste (Garry), Antigonish; Jason DeCoste (Sue), Lloydminster; Jacqueline Cleary (Bradley), Antigonish; eight grandchildren, Carlee DeCoste, Kyle and Krysten Pettipas, Sam and Cordell DeCoste, Jenna, Joanna and Julia Cleary; the mother of his children, Naomi DeCoste, Manassette Lake; four sisters, Dolly Fraser (Jack), Barbara Spin, Theresa Kelly (Dennis), Rita Meagher (Philip); brother, Michael DeCoste; two brothers-in-law, Arthur Williams, Louis Brow; sister-in-law, Loretta ‘Sandy’ DeCoste; special niece, Nicole Meagher; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by four sisters, Agatha, Kathleen, Patricia, Adeline; brother, Gerard.

  Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s Luncheon Fund or to the Palliative Care Unit at St. Martha’s Hospital, Antigonish.
