It is with great sadness that we, the family of John James Morrison, announce his passing on Friday, June 7, 2019 at home on Cabot Street in Sydney, NS. Born September 21, 1941 in Boisdale, he was the son of the late Roderick and Laura (Ley) Morrison. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Murphy) and his three boys, Kirk (Shauna), Kevin (Charlene) and Keith (Lisa), as well as his three grandsons, his pride and joy, Colby, Jamie and Alec. He is also survived by his sisters, Sister Mary Ann (CND), Susie MacKay, Tina Boyd (Alex), Joanna Fraser (Bert), Florence Lowry (Max), Beatty MacDonald, Laureen MacDonald (Roddie), and brothers, Bert (Sarah), Malcolm (Sandra) and Greg. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by, brothers, Martin and Charlie, as well as brothers-in-law, Bill MacKay and Joe MacDonald. Growing up in Boisdale next to the church, it was always a cornerstone of his life. After high school, he attended Xavier Jr. College and St.F.X. He later moved to Toronto where he started his career with the railroad as a Locomotive Engineer with the CPR. In Toronto is where he met Betty at the “Down East Dances” that he also organized. In the 1970’s, they happily returned to Cape Breton with their three boys and finished his career with DEVCO until his retirement. Jim enjoyed watching his three grandsons playing hockey, spending his summers in Boisdale with family and friends, and afternoons where ‘Good Friends Gather”. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 3 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11th at St. Theresa’s Church, Sydney with Father Joe MacKenzie officiating. A reception will follow the service at St. Theresa’s hall. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Donations in memory can be made to Cape Breton Palliative Care and the Canadian Cancer Society.
