Jean Toomey, Rn

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our mom at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Monday, March 12, 2018. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Emile and Jeanne (Vereanell) Landru. She was the best mom, grandmother, and friend. She loved and lived for her family. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Jean worked as an RN at the Glace Bay General Hospital. After obtaining her public health diploma at Dalhousie University, she worked with Public Health in Sydney Mines and Glace Bay until she retired. She is survived by her daughter and best friend, Nancy (Rick MacKinnon); son, Blaise (Cathy Morrison); grandchildren, who were the light of her life, Tiara (Colin Graham), Ricky, Jake and Chantal. She also had two great granddaughters, Molly and Quinn who she was so proud of and loved dearly. Mom had many talents, sewing, quilting, painting. She loved spending time with her two special friends, Ruth and Cecilia, among many others, and especially her little dog Sophie. Mom is survived by several nieces and nephews, one special niece, Elaine who was always by our side when needed. At Mom's request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place on Thursday, March 15 from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Lay Minister Martha MacDonald officiating. She will be interred in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date with the love of her life, her husband, Jerry Toomey, who passed away in December 2011. MOM - we had no notice, we had no signs that you were leaving us. We will always remember your waves goodbye, your hugs, and "I love you" as we left you. Your last words will always be a reminder of how much you loved us all. You are with Dad now. Rest in peace, go for your drives. Give Dad a hug and kiss and tell him how much we miss him. Never stop looking down on us. We love you forever.
