We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our mother, Jean Ross of Union Centre, Pictou County which occurred in Shiretown Nursing Home on August 6, 2019. Jean was born in Boston, Mass, the daughter of Mary (Balfour) and Edmund Tolson. Jean graduated from Business College before marrying and having children. She and her husband Alvin built and ran Ross’s service station in Union Centre for over 24 years. She was a long-term member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Westville where she taught Sunday school for several years. Jean is survived by daughters, Judy (David), Susan, Shirley, Willena (Leslie), Jeannie (Francis) and several grandchildren, Mary, Janet, Fred, Nathan, Angus and Kate and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sister, Virginia Miller; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Alvin Ross; her daughter, Jennie; sister, Mary Elizabeth Boudreau, and brothers, George, Charles and Jimmy Tolson. The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Shiretown Nursing Home for the loving care and attention given to our mother over the past two years. We would also like to thank the VON home care staff for the wonderful care given to Jean prior to moving into Shiretown. Jean is resting at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Friday, 7-9 p.m. Her funeral will take place Saturday at 2 p.m. from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with Rev. Charles MacPherson officiating. Burial will be in the Union Centre cemetery, Gray Road. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to a charity of your choice. www.eaglesfuneralhome.ca.
