Jackie Fitzgerald, age 62, died Dec 3rd, at home in Sugar Loaf, after suffering from Alcoholism for many years. Born in Dartmouth and raised in Cape North; he was the son of the late Mary, and Jack Fitzgerald. Jackie was a gentle, quiet man who spent most of his working life on the water. He was employed on fishing boats, Great Lake boats, tugs, and dredges. His proudest years were spent with the Canadian Coast Guard. Serving on such vessels as the “Louis St. Laurent,” and “William Alexander,” his crew mates became his loyal friends. He will be missed by those who knew him best. He is survived by his son, Ryan (Milissa), and siblings, Heather (Clifford), Kerry (Gay), and Laurie Ann. He was predeceased by his parents, and many aunts and uncles, with special mention of aunt, Effie Fitzgerald, and uncle, Norman-Joseph Whiteley. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home. Burial will be in Aspy Bay United Cemetery at a later date.
