Irene Maclellan
MacLELLAN, Irene MacLellan North Sydney/Sydney Mines It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, Irene MacLellan, 83, on Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at MacGillivray Guest Home. Born in Sydney on November 9, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Harris and Doreen (Williams) Reid. Irene was a faithful member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Sydney Mines, where she was for many years a Sunday School teacher, leader of the Children of the Church group, and co-coordinator of Vacation Bible School. She was a charter member of the Sydney Mines Kinette Club and with her husband, Lorne, a contributor to many community endeavours. She loved music and dancing with Lorne. Irene was a wonderful and devoted wife and mother who enjoyed her home and family. She dedicated her life to her family and service to others. She was constantly cleaning and kept an immaculate home. She was a beautiful cook and provided her family and those who visited with delicious meals. The smell of the weekly homemade bread was always a delight to Lorne, Nancy, and Clyde. Irene enjoyed the simple things in life and was a kind and caring presence in her home and community. She will forever be in our hearts. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dr. D. Lorne MacLellan; son, Clyde (Marian McMahon), Ottawa, and daughter, Nancy (Rev. Ritchie Robinson), North Sydney. She is also survived by sisters, Evelyn Carver, Sydney and Velma (Richard) Wace, Toronto; brothers, Neil (Margie) and Lloyd (Francie); brother-in-law, Roger MacQueen and sister-in-law, Helen Reid, all of Sydney, along with many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Wilfred, Melvin and Cecil; sisters, Marjorie MacQueen, Mildred Reid and Lena Evans; brothers-in-law, Albert (Bud) Carver and Lew Evans. Special thanks to Dr. Beth MacCormick for her care over the years, Dr. Jeanne Ferguson for her guidance, all of Irene’s home care workers, and the staff of MacGillivray Guest Home for their care and compassion to Irene and the family. Visitation for Irene will be held in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines, on Saturday, October 19, 2019, from 6 to 9 p.m. A celebration of her life will take place Sunday, October 20, at 2 p.m. in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Sydney Mines with Rev. Dr. Marion Barclay MacKay and Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating; burial to follow in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines. Memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (3 Queen St., Sydney Mines, B1V 2L1), St. Giles Presbyterian Church (49 Campbell St., North Sydney, B2A 2C8), or charity of choice. Words of comfort may be sent to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
