Henry ‘Henni’ Daniel Macneil
Henry Daniel MacNeil, 87, of Sydney, passed away while surrounded by family on Friday, April 6, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital following a brief illness. He was the son of the late George and Gertrude (Gillis) MacNeil. Henni was a quiet man who enjoyed the simple things in life. His greatest pleasure was spending summers in the sun at his bungalow in Ben Eoin with family, and his Ben Eoin family. He worked over 60 years as a crane operator for Hashem’s Scrap Yard, where he was well known for his ability to operate the crane with mastery. Henni’s self-taught hobby of playing guitar and singing a tune was something he shared with only his family and closest friends. Henni is survived by his wife, Greta (LeBlanc); children, Diane (Albert) Nordine, Robert, Alan (Penny), Danny (Karen), Jo-ann (Russell) MacKinnon and Lynn; sister-in-law, Helen MacNeil; grandchildren, Aaron (Kim), Mark (Linda), Todd, Jonathan (Cara), Aimee (Jordan), Adam, Jessica (Tyler), Laura, Colin and his precious Zoë, as well as seven great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Henni was predeceased by brothers, Gerry and Kevin; sisters, Ruth Tutty and June MacKeigan; two children, Wayne and Carol in infancy, and grandson, Kyle Nordine. Henni and Greta were married 63 years, he devoted his last years to caring for her with compassion. A very special thanks to EHS and ICU staff for their amazing care and kindness to Henni and his family. Cremation has taken place and at the request of family there will be no visitation.
