Gloria Winnifred (Winnie) Weir

Gloria Winnifred (Winnie) Weir
WEIR, Gloria Winnifred (Winnie) Sydney Mines We regret to announce the passing of our mother Gloria Winifred Weir (Winnie), at the age of 78, on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Sydney Mines on July 6, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mary Ann (Jackson) Ginter. Gloria was an active loving family woman who enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends and was well known for her passion for playing Bingo. She worked at many jobs in her lifetime, with her last job being at Braemore Home in Sydney until she retired to stay at home and raise her granddaughter Jennifer. Her compassionate side would show when she often arrived home on her days off with a patient on a weekend pass to spend time with her own family. Gloria spent her last several years residing with her daughter Debbie, remaining active even up to her last weeks, not missing a family get-together, celebration, meal, and even weekends camping in Margaree. She is survived by her son, John (Lisa Buffett), Sydney Mines; daughters, Debbie (Peter Phillips), Boularderie and Cheryl Clarke (Jamie Whitty); brothers, Blair and John Ginter; sisters, Helen Ginter, Peggy Ginter and Amy Carbery along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Gloria was predeceased by her husband, John; daughter, Gloria; brothers, Buddy, Lloyd, Neiley and baby, Russell; sisters, Annie Jane Hatcher, Audrey Pero and Elda Ginter. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and volunteers of Unit 4B of C.B.R. Hospital and the Palliative Care unit and granddaughter in law Jenna Coleman, RN whose compassion and care made Mom as comfortable as possible. She will be sadly missed and forever remembered by her many family and friends. There will be no visitation. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, at 11 a.m. in Carman United Church, Sydney Mines with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating, with a reception to follow. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines. Donations may be made to the Palliative Care unit of the Regional Hospital or a charity of one's choice. Words of comfort may be forwarded to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
