Gladys Axworthy — Glace Bay

We are sad to announce the passing of Gladys (Madower) Axworthy on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex, Glace Bay. Born on February 11, 1940 in Sydney, Gladys was the daughter of the late John and Ann (Bailey) Madower. In her early years, Gladys worked at Humber Memorial Hospital in Weston, Ontario. Then she became a stay at home mom who had her hands full with her four children. She loved to knit, crochet and cook fabulous meals. She was the rock of the family. Gunner had to bury his ‘guns’ when he met Gladys. She will be missed by all who knew her. Gladys is survived by her children, Frank (Mary) and John (Marian); granddaughter, Cassandra; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. Besides her parents, Gladys was predeceased by her husband, John ‘Gunner’ Henry Axworthy; daughter, Margaret Ann and son, Reg. Cremation has taken place and a private family gathering to celebrate the life of Gladys Axworthy will take place at a later date. Donations in memory of the late Gladys E. Axworthy may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
