MacAULAY, Georgene ‘Gina’ Marie Gardiner Mines It is with broken hearts we, the family of Georgene 'Gina' MacAulay, announce her passing on October 6, 2019, at home with her family by her side after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Gina was the eldest daughter of the late John and Betty (Williamson) Manzine. She was born and raised in Scotchtown. Gina married the love of her life and soulmate, Alvin on April 29, 1978. Together they raised their four children. She was so proud of them and would do anything for them. She taught them how to be strong, independent, and to always work hard. She showed them the true meaning of love. Gina worked at Cape Breton Residential Society, Resi-Care Cape Breton and in the past, The Society for Treatment of Autism. She held a special place in her heart for all the Residents she worked with. Throughout her years of employment, Gina made many great friends whom she loved to go to concerts, plays and movies with. She loved her animals, and she had many. She enjoyed spending her mornings feeding her chickens and ducks. You could find her in the horse barn or in the corral at any time. Besides her animals, Gina enjoyed spending every spare minute she had with her grandchildren; they were her pride and joy. She never missed a dance recital or basketball game. She was their biggest fan. She loved her family so much. Gina is survived by her husband of 41 years, Alvin MacAulay; children, John (Jenna) MacAulay, Nancy (Cory) McPhee, Benita MacAulay, Gina (Justin) MacAulay; her brothers, Donnie (Roseanne) Manzine, Larry (Bonnie) Manzine; sister, Benita (Bradly) Manzine; her grandchildren, Rebecca-Rose MacAulay, Colten and Callie McPhee and Ethan Wall. She is also survived by her extended family, nieces, nephews, friends, and her special little buddy, Nipper. Gina was predeceased by her parents and both her maternal and paternal grandparents. She was so loved and will be missed everyday. The family would like to extend a special thanks to VON and Palliative Care for their continued care and support during this difficult time. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. There will be no visitation or service at Gina’s request. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cape Breton SPCA in her memory. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca “ Our hearts are full of memories, with pride we speak your name, though life goes on without you, we will never be quite the same. ”
