Funeral service for the late Francis ‘Blackie’ Johnson, 66, Paqtnkek Mikmaw Nation, was held February 7 in Immaculate Conception Church, Heatherton, Antigonish County, with Father Andrew Gillies officiating, assisted by Deacon Art Riley. Burial was in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Summerside. Mr. Johnson died February 3, 2019, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital. Readers at the funeral Mass were Caitlin Johnson, Gerard Julian, Morgan Julian and Daejah Johnson. Deshawn Francis Johnson, Edwin Riley Julian and Nolan Johnson presented the offertory gifts. Music was provided by Heatherton Choir. Active pallbearers were Daniel Prosper, Shawn Johnson, Martin Julian, Gerard Julian, Patrick Johnson and Trevor Gould. Honorary pallbearers were Vincent Basque, Fred Sylliboy, Dameon Johnson, Johnny Lafford, Aaron Johnson, Brendan Johnson, Earl Edward Lafford, Nathan Lafford, John R. Prosper, Maury Prosper, Jarvis Young, Linda Julian, Logan Johnson and Andre Julian. Born December 8, 1952, in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Andrew and Martha (Mosey) Johnson. He was an outdoorsman with a passion for salmon fishing and eeling. He also enjoyed participating in sports, especially horseshoes, bowling and baseball. He cherished the memories of his pilgrimage to Medjugorge in 1995. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by nieces, nephews; godchildren, Trevor Gould, Logan Johnson; good friend, Daniel ‘Danny’ Prosper. He was predeceased by three brothers, Abraham ‘Boy’, John ‘Suedoll’, Richard ‘Boodie’; three sisters, Pauline, Edna, Mary ‘Molly’. Online condolences: www.clcurry.com
