Father Angus Roderick Morris
Father Angus Roderick Morris, son of the late Florence (MacDonald) and Patrick Morris of Colindale passed away on November 24, 2018 in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Born on December 17, 1936, (the same day as Pope Francis). Father Angus was very honored to share this special event with the Pope. Father Angus began his education in Colindale School and then attended Port Hood Academy. After high school he worked for several years in farming and fishing with his father. He also experienced work in the mines in Elliot Lake, Ontario. In 1958, he began a B.A. program at St. F. X. After his graduation in 1962, he entered the Eudist Seminary in Halifax and was ordained a priest by Bishop William Power on May 19, 1966. Throughout most of the 52 years of his priesthood, Father Angus served in various parishes in the Diocese of Antigonish. For seven years he worked in the Latin American Apostolate in Honduras. He loved and was loved in all the parishes in which he served. He was gifted with a great facility for recalling people’s names which was much appreciated especially by the elderly and youth. Father Angus was gifted with a special love for the sick and shut-ins and spent many hours ministering to them. He was also blessed with a beautiful gift of music which he shared with people of all ages. He was proud to direct The Cape Breton Fiddlers for a period of time. He had a great sense of humour and enjoyed sharing stories with his friends. His ability for delivering the Gospel message in a concise way was a gift recognized by his congregations. He cherished being a priest and was most thankful to God for being chosen to follow Jesus in this most special calling. Father Angus is survived by sisters: Catherine, CND, Sydney, Mary, CND, Halifax and Teresa (John vanZutphen) Port Hood, brothers: Father Eugene, Harbour View and Joseph (Mary MacLellan) of Port Hood. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Father Angus was predeceased by his sister, Loranna Chisholm (Bill), brothers: Alexander (Catherine), and Hugh (Terry)and three infant brothers. Visitation will be held in St. Peter’s Church, Port Hood on Monday, November 26 from 7-9 p.m. and on Tuesday, November 27 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Prayer Vigil will take place at 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday in the Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Brian Dunn assisted by Rev. Eugene Morris and priests of the Diocese at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Burial will be at a later date. Donations may be made to Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital or a charity of your choice. Special thanks to the compassionate medical staff of Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. The family is extremely grateful to all the wonderful volunteers who helped Father Angus during his many months in the hospital. Father Angus deeply appreciated the services provided by Home Care Workers and the many friends who comforted him with their talents, prayers and companionship. The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful people of St. Mary’s Parish in Mabou who supported Father Angus, especially in his final years of ministry. The hospitality shown to him by the Sisters of St. Joseph’s Convent deserves special mention. He truly appreciated the visits and support of Bishop Brian and his brother priests.
