We, the family of Evelyn MacDonald, age 90, regret to announce her passing on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, after a long and courageous struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born September 7, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Harriet (Foote) Darby of Sydney. Mom graduated from the Sydney City Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed at the Sydney Steel Plant Hospital (later the Sysco Medical Center), from which she retired having made many friends at Sysco. In earlier years, mom and dad loved to travel in their RV to PEI and throughout Nova Scotia with their kids and grandkids. Mom enjoyed knitting, her bridge club, trying new recipes, crossword puzzles, trips to Margaree and long drives in the car. She is survived by her daughter, Jane (John) Monaghan, Coxheath; sons, Howard (Anne), Sydney and Eric (Waw), Calgary; grandchildren, Tricia, Lisa (Kevin) and Kim (Roger) Monaghan of Sydney, Zachary MacDonald, Calgary and John Eric MacDonald, Calgary; great-grandchildren, Riley, Brianna and Caylie Andrews and Tyson and Avery Skeets. Mom was predeceased by her husband, Clarence “Duffer”; son, Richard; and sister, Muriel Darby, New York. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday, March 15 at 1:30 p.m., followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 2:30 p.m. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.
