Funeral service for the late Emma Theresa Boudreau, 86, Halifax, was held December 4 in St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Tracadie, with Father John Barry officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Mrs. Boudreau died November 23, 2018, in St. Vincent’s Nursing Home, Halifax. Readers at the funeral Mass were Amanda Dixon and Ramona Derbyshire. Sarah Dixon and Melanie Oldham presented the offertory gifts. Music was provided by Ty Wallace. Pallbearers were Elliott Fillmore, Graham Fillmore, Quentin Fillmore, Douglas Pohl, Maurice Pohl and Daniel Oldham. Born November 7, 1932, in East Tracadie, she was the youngest of seven children born to the late Thomas and Elizabeth Boudreau. She left home at age 15 to work for one summer with the Stanfield family in Truro, but ended up staying for 15 years, working as a housekeeper and cook. She moved to Boston, Massachusetts, at age 30 and continued in her domestic work, first, for the Dean of Education at Harvard University, and later for many private clients. She had an impeccable work ethic and loved the work she did. She loved her life in Boston. She met Frank (Sebastiano) Fazio while ballroom dancing and they spent many years together until his death in 2005. She enjoyed cooking, baking, writing letters, chats on the phone, travelling and shopping. She took a yearly vacation home to Canada, dividing her time between Halifax and the homestead in East Tracadie. She retired at age 75 and returned to Canada in 2008. She enjoyed her own apartment until 2016, moving to St. Vincent’s Nursing Home due to health reasons. There she made many friends, including the Crafty Cronies. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by niece, Geraldine (Gerry) Hartlen, who she considered her sister; many special nieces and nephews, especially Tommy and Donald Fillmore, who she helped raise after they lost their mother at a young age. She was predeceased by brother, Clarence Boudreau; five sisters, Mary (Percy Doucette), Catherine (Layton Fillmore), Sarah ‘Sadie’ (Joseph Gorman), Eileen (James Vacheresse), Genevieve Boudreau; nephew, Buddy ‘J.R.’ Fillmore.
