Emma Marie Mcelhinney

McELHINNEY, Emma Marie – 88, Lower Debert, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Bass River, she was a daughter of the late Lester and Winnie (Ellis) Carde. Marie spent 25 years as a cook at Chiganois Elementary. She was a member of Erskine United Church where she was a life-time member of the UCW, cherished her time as a Sunday school teacher and was a CGIT leader. Marie is survived by her sister, Doreen (Glenn) Putnam, Masstown; sister-in-law, Marilyn Glenjen, Truro; brother-in-law, Walter (Jean) McElhinney, Onslow; nieces and nephews, Patti (Archie) McLellan, Donald Putnam, Donna (Dennis) Gertridge, Margie (Bill) Andrews, Bruce (Sharon) McElhinney, David (Anne Marie) McElhinney, Ian (Tania) McElhinney, Donald (Katherine) Glenjen, Doug Glenjen, Gail (Colin) Hamilton; great nephew, Brandon (Kaley) McLellan; several other great nieces and great nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Burton McElhinney; sisters, Joyce Carde, Frances (Earl) Hollis; brothers, Jimmie Carde, Leo (Doris) Carde; brother-in-law, Terje Glenjen. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Marie’s family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday, March 2, 2018. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Erskine United Church, 983 Highway 2, Glenholme, Reverend Carolyn Rushton officiating. Interment in Folly Village Cemetery. Reception will follow in the church hall. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Marie’s memory to Folly Village Cemetery or Palliative Care Unit (CEHHC) are welcomed.
