CLARKE, Ella Jean (Rideout) North Sydney It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of Ella Jean Clarke, age 96, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at the Northside General Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Neil’s Harbour on May 7, 1923, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Alice Maude (Fricker) Rideout. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her son, Eric (Shirleen); daughters, Sandra (Harold) Cuff, Jean (Reid MacKay) and Donna (John O’Brien); her 8 grandchildren, Eric, Tim, Stephen, Shauna, Heather, Wendy, Adam and Dean; her 6 great-grandchildren, Katie, Jordan, Riley, Jack, Marleigh and Evan. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Conrad ‘Bish’ Clarke; and sister-in-law, Shirley Clarke; nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Ella was predeceased by her husband, Howard ‘Howdie’ Clarke; infant daughter, Patricia; her sisters, Irene Clark, Mildred Seymour, Hattie Fricker, Gladys Foss; and by brothers, Tim and Cecil; sister-in-law, Margie MacDonald; brother-in-law, Bob Clarke. There will be no visitation or funeral service by request. Friends and family are invited to gather at her home from 2-4 p.m. on Friday. A private family burial will be held in Lakeside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Giles Presbyterian Church, North Sydney. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J.
