Dorothy Jane Robbins

A memorial service for the late Dorothy Jane Robbins, 77, Antigonish, was held August 4 in C. L. Curry Funeral Home with Reverend John Scott officiating.

Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Halifax.

Mrs. Robbins died July 26, 2019, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.

Readers at the funeral service were Viola Doncaster and Stella MacPhee. Words of remembrance were given by James Gough. Music was provided by Margaret MacGregor MacDonald.

Pallbearers were Mike Velemirovich, Maureen MacLeod, Martha Hood, Theresa Janega, Tanya Rosetti, Peter Rossetti and Kathleen Gough.

Born in Sydney, Cape Breton and raised in East Bay, she was a daughter of the late James and Lavinia (Hamlet) Gough. She taught in Grand Mira before moving to Montreal, where she worked at CN Rail until having her daughters. She and her family returned to Nova Scotia in 1976. She had a great sense of humour and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was great with children and babysat for family and friends over the years. She was an avid reader and had volunteered to teach others to read in Each One Teach One. A woman of great faith, she was a member of St. Andrew’s Parish and was known for her prayers for others.

She is survived by two daughters, Marjorie Ann Robbins (Chris Worley Hixon), Los Angeles; Barbara Ann Stegemann (Mike Velemirovich), Halifax; two grandchildren, Victor Stegemann, Ella Webster; special friend, Jarvis Young; brother, Patrick Gough; seven sisters, Viola (Ivan) Doncaster, Maureen (Sonny) MacLeod, Cecilia (Peter) Rossetti, Theresa (Bernie) Janega, Stella (Tony) MacPhee, Martha (Gary) Hood, Catherine (Doug) MacArthur; 30 nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her step-mother, Barbara (Doyle) Gough; brother, Jim Gough; two sisters-in-law, Theresa (MacIntyre) Gough and Angela (Brace) Gough.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Parish.
