Daniel Arthur Rogers

Funeral service for the late Daniel Arthur Rogers, 76, Calgary, Alberta, was held October 3 in St. Peter’s Church, Tracadie, Antigonish County, with Father John Barry officiating, assisted by Father John Mills. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Mr. Rogers died September 23, 2019.

Readers at the funeral Mass were Erin Lynch and Regina Tate. Altar servers were Donnie Pitts and Myles Somers. Music was provided by vocalist Tyrus Wallace and piper Scott Williams.

Urn bearers were Blaise Rogers, Dwayne Rogers, Rebecca Lloy and Erin Lynch.

Honorary pallbearers were Caleigh Rogers, Alyssa Rogers, Kamryn Rogers and Kurtis Rogers.

Born March 25, 1943, in Antigonish, he was the son of the late Louis and Marion Rogers. He moved his young family to Schumacher in 1970. While his sons were growing up, he was very involved as they both played baseball and hockey. In his younger years, he was a sports enthusiast and was a proven athletic asset in the Heatherton area with his hockey goaltending and softball skills. With his expertise, he volunteered as a coach and trainer in Schumacher, rarely missing any of his sons’ games. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He also had a deep love of horses and spent much of his spare time over the years grooming them and spending time at the race track. He cherished the years spent at Calgary’s Heritage Park, driving a team of horses that pulled wagons full of tourists around the park.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine; two sons, Blaise (Tara), Schumacher, Ontario; Dwayne (Franci), Sault Ste Marie, Ontario; four grandchildren, Caleigh,  Alyssa, Schumacher; Kamryn, Kurtis, Sault Ste Marie; two sisters, Carol LeBlanc (Gerald), Marilyn Lynch (Michael),  Heatherton; brother, John Morrison Rogers (Sharon), Heatherton; numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.

He was predeceased by sister, Patricia; his father- and mother-in-law, Anthony and Margaret DeCoste.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Peter’s Cemetery Fund.
