It is with great sadness the family of Clifford MacDonald "Maggie Blair", age 84, announces his passing on August 10, 2019 in Alderwood Rest Home in Baddeck. Born in Beinn Bhreagh on February 10, 1935, Clifford was a son of the late Margaret MacLeod. He is survived by his daughters, Darlene (Gerald), Trish (Mike), Lorraine (Joe); grandchildren, Ceilidh, Bhreagh, Fraser, and Julian; sisters, Barbara, Betty; brothers, Donnie, George, Keith and Peter. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years, Marian; sister, Mora; and brothers, Charlie and Milton. As a young man, Clifford moved to Ontario twice for work, but his love for Cape Breton and Baddeck always called him back home. Baddeck is where he met the love of his life Marian, and where they created their life and family together. Clifford had many jobs during his working years. He worked for Nova Scotia Power, was a taxi driver, forester, Cabot Trail tour guide, worked at the Victoria County jail, and helped to establish one of the ambulance services in Baddeck. Clifford, however, was best known for his years working for the Victoria County School Board for 31 years where he was known by the students as "Maggie Bus Driver". Clifford loved helping people and was an active member of the community throughout his entire life. He had been a volunteer fire fighter, and long-time member of the Lions Club. He delivered Meals on Wheels, volunteered at the Gaelic College, shuttled the Free Wheelers all over Cape Breton Island, and volunteered in the summer to drive the bus for Alderwood. Clifford was always up for a game of cards with the seniors, coached the local women's softball and boys' hockey teams, chaperoned community dances and helped with too many BBQ's and pig roasts to count. Even with all his community work Clifford always put his family first. He taught his daughters to be independent, stand up for what is right, to not be afraid to speak your mind. He also believed that life was meant to be lived, and to go and enjoy every day. We would like to say a special thank you family friends, Pat Ryan, and Peter Harrison. Also, Amanda Morrison for the care, kindness and love she has shown our father and our family. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Mac-Askill Funeral Home, Baddeck. The funeral will be held Friday, August 16th at 2 p.m. in Greenwood United Church. Officiating will be Rev Alicia Cox. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the to Victoria County Memorial Hospital or the Baddeck Lions Club. Immediately following the funeral there will be a reception in the downstairs of the church.
