With broken hearts we announce the passing of our mom, Christine (Wells) MacDonald at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, after a long fight from complications of cancer. She passed away peacefully with her baby girl holding her hand but not before putting up a strong fight until the very end. Born on January 25, 1940 in Sydney, Christine was the daughter of the late James Elias and Etta (Lawrence) Wells and grew up on Mercer Street in Whitney Pier. For the later years Christine resided at the senior’s complex in Whitney Pier with a great group of ladies who she loved and adored. Christine leaves behind to mourn, her sons, Peter, Halifax, Robert and Clyde (Alison), Sydney; daughters, Wanda (Bryden) MacDonald, Sydney River, Denise (Wendell) Dunn, Prime Brook and Debbie, Sydney; grandson, Brent (Danielle) MacDonald, PEI, who was like a son to her; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Gerald (Ruth), Halifax and Dave (Ellen), Ontario; sisters, Carlotta, Montreal, Roxanne, Eskasoni, Loretta and Judy, Ontario; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Christine was pre-deceased by her former husband, Peter MacDonald; brothers, Junior, Alphonse and sister, Jean Powell. Memorial service to celebrate the life of Christine MacDonald will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 11 a.m. in St. Albans Anglican Church, Whitney Pier, with Archdeacon Brenda Drake officiating. Following the service, everyone is invited to a reception at the Pier Community Funeral Home. Private family interment will take place at a later date. The family of Christine would like to thank the nursing staff on 4B, the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and the VON nurses who provided mom with such wonderful care at home. Donations in memory of Christine may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
