CHARLES BURTON MACHATTIE

Funeral service for the late Charles Burton ‘Burt’ MacHattie, 86, Truro, was held October 9 in Colchester Community Funeral Home, Truro, with Reverend Keith Hagerman officiating. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Stewiacke East.

Mr. MacHattie died October 4, 2019, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

Born July 6, 1933, in West Side Loch Katrine, he was a son of the late George William and Alma Lorana (Sweet) MacHattie. He was employed for 38 years with The Royal Bank of Canada, serving in various branches in Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec. After retiring in 1989, he built a home on a hill overlooking his birthplace, where he and his wife lived until they moved to Truro in 2003. He enjoyed fixing things for family and his many church communities. During his banking years, he served various positions in the Lions Club, 100 Club, Curling Club, Rotary Club, C.N.I.B., Industrial Commission, Hospital Board.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Alice; two sons, David (Teresa Speelman), Middleton; Ian (Brenda Leenders), Truro; daughter-in-law, Marlene MacHattie, Amherstview, Ontario; grandson, Jeremy MacHattie; seven granddaughters, Juli, Nicole, Jenn, Myra, Josee, April, Megan; three great-grandsons, Garritt, Maverick, Landyn; two great-granddaughters, Margot,  Elsie; two sisters-in-law, Eunice Fizzard; Kathryn MacHattie; brother-in-law, David Fizzard; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, Allen; two sisters, Bertha Matheson, Louise Williams; three brothers, Roland, Stubbert, Sandy; six sisters-in-law, Leona MacHattie, Jessie MacHattie, Grace Rose, Beatrice Andrews, Frances Ramsey, Shirley Bradshaw; seven brothers-in-law, Murray Williams, Gordon Matheson, Mel Rose, Ralph Andrews, Lawrence Ramsey, David Bradshaw, Walter Ramsey.

Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Canada, Colchester East Hants Health Centre Foundation or First United Church Fund.
