Catherine Veronica Macpherson

Funeral service for the late Catherine ‘Veronica’ MacPherson, 87, William’s Point, Antigonish County, was held October 12 in St. Ninian Cathedral with Father Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Mrs. MacPherson died October 7, 2019, in the Palliative Care Unit of St Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.

Readers at the funeral Mass were Regina Murphy, Sister Jovita MacPherson and Janice Fraser. Music was provided by Margaret MacGregor MacDonald and violinist John Pellerin.

Active pallbearers were Scott Bowman, Blaise Mattie, Brad Bowman, Mark MacDonald, Ryan Kelly and Susanne MacIvor.

 Honorary pallbearers were Jodie Jargova, Joey MacDonald, Tilly MacDonald, Susan Cameron, Marie Pettipas, Marie MacIsaac, Donald MacInnis, Joe MacPherson, Carlie Chisholm, Mae MacEachern, Joy Watts, Greg Fraser, Terry MacGillivary, Freddie Mattie, Art Hall, Bev MacFarlane, Frank Cormier and Bernice Deon.

Born December 15, 1931, in Wood’s Island, Newfoundland, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Gertrude (Hickey) Hynes. She worked in food preparation at St Martha’s Hospital for many years. She enjoyed swimming at St. F.X pool, walking, playing cards, and doing sudokos.  She faithfully sponsored three children through the Chalice program. She was an active member of St. Ninian’s CWL. While William’s Point was her home, she was a proud Newfoundlander and never forgot her roots. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by four children, Martina (Dave) Kelly, Antigonish; Mary (Buckie) Bowman, Afton; Wayne (Cindy) MacPherson, Shubenacadie; Cory MacPherson, William’s Point; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joe ‘Sam’ MacPherson; son, Darryl; grandson, Christopher; two brothers, Pat, Jack; four sisters, Min, Liz, Dorothy, Anne.
