With broken hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Marie McMullin, 96, at home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, November 14, 2018. Born in Ingonish, Mom was a daughter of the late David and Catherine (MacLennan) Gillis. Mom was a member of the former St. Agnes Parish, currently the Parish Church of St. Leonard, New Waterford. Mom was a woman of great faith and a life-time member of the C.W.L. Mom was the founding member of the Maple Hill Manor Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Ageing Gracefully. Mom loved a good game of cards and was a great cook and baker. Mom's favourite time of year was Christmas spending time with family and friends. Mom is survived by her husband of 73 years, William 'Billy'; daughters, Barbara (Roddy) Bossy, Cathy (Clark) Swimm, Colleen (Remi) Lyonnais, Alana (Robbie) Campbell, Janet (Jay) McKay, Connie (Roger) Desveaux, Kim (Andy) Spence; son, David (Linda) McMullin; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, Mom was predeceased by five sisters and three brothers. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A Funeral Mass of celebration will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard's Parish Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford. Donations in her memory may be made to New Waterford Homecare.
