Bessie Christene Rutter

Age 92 passed away in Oakwood Terrace, Dartmouth, April 8, 2019. Born in St. Pauls, Pictou County, she was the only child of the late John Walter and Ethel (MacIntosh) Fraser. Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1972, Mom was proud to have participated in numerous MS research projects led by Dr. T. Jock Murray spending months at a time in the NS Rehabilitation Centre. Despite her diagnosis, she maintained a very active social life and always had a smile and hello for everyone. “Think Positive” was her motto. Bessie will be deeply missed by her daughters Lesley, Carol (Frank) and Cathy (Perry) and her grandchildren Iain, Matthew, Courtney, Cameron, Kerri and Bryce. She will also be missed by her companion Gordon Nicholls (Bill and Theresa and families). She was predeceased by her son-in-law Frank. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Oakwood Terrace for their loving care of Mom over the past 11 years. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, School Street, Dartmouth with Rev. Dr. P. A. (Sandy) McDonald officiating. Private burial will be in the Bridgeville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Oakwood Terrace Recreation Department or a charity of your choice.
