We, the family of Beryl Isaline (Parris) Braithwaite, age 97, regret to announce her passing on Sunday, March 11, 2018, at the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex. Born December 29, 1920, in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Daisy (Skeete) Parris. For 21 years, Beryl was employed at Woolworth’s Department Store. She was a dedicated member of St. Philips African Orthodox Church, Whitney Pier, where she was involved in the Altar Guild and Vestory. An avid community member, Beryl was a former member of Club 55, the Army Navy, the Sydney Pensioner’s Club, the Sergeants Mess at Victoria Park and the Ladies Auxiliary at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 128, Whitney Pier. She enjoyed bowling and a good game of tarabish. Beryl is survived by her sons, Sheldon (Natalie) and Dave; sister, Pam Parris; brother, Eddie (Laura) Parris; grandchildren, David Braithwaite (Marlene), Dionne (Frankie) Romard, Shelly Braithwaite, Adam and Matthew (Nicole) Fitzgerald; great-grandchildren, Brittney, Evan, Rylan, Braylan, Alexander and Lillian; great-great-granddaughter, Kiley; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Evelyn Braithwaite; sisters, Thelma Parris, Muriel Brown, Olive Parris, Ruby Thompson and Ursil Braithwaite; brother, Cecil Parris and two brothers in infancy. We would like to thank the sincere and dedicated staff at Taigh Na Mara and the Glace Bay Hospital for the wonderful care provided to our mother. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 from 6-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Thursday, March 15 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Mother Phyllis Marsh officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cape Breton, Whitney Pier Youth Club.
