HIGGINS, Arthur D. North Sydney It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, Arthur David Higgins, age 93, on Monday October 7, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sydney Mines, February 17, 1926, Art was the son of the late Arthur T. and Mary Ellen (Cullen) Higgins. Art taught school at Notre Dame in Sydney Mines, before beginning his career as a Pharmaceutical Representative. Art was an active member of St Joseph Parish in North Sydney. Art is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Marguerite (Chisholm) Higgins; his children, Louise (Al) Côté, Moncton, Sean Higgins, Sydney, Kathleen (Shaun) MacDonald, North Sydney, Michael (Helen) Higgins, Cole Harbour, Kerry (Gerri) Higgins, Calgary; grandchildren, Carolyn (Bryan) Dubé, Marc Côté, Laura and Kieran Higgins, Kaitlin (Daniel) Thistle, Brèagh MacDonald (Ryan Cordy), Michael and Shannon MacDonald, Stephanie Higgins and Kathleen (Tyler) Harding, and great-grandsons, Bren, Theo, Shea, Graeme, Neil and Lorne. Besides his parents, Art was predeceased by infant sons, John, Joseph and Gerard; sisters, Evelyn Higgins, Eileen Tompkins and Edith MacLean; brothers, Gerald and Lorne Higgins. Special appreciation to the staff and volunteers at An Cala of the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. There will be no visitation by request. A Funeral Mass for Art will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 12 at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Angus MacDougall officiating. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the An Cala, Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and their volunteers or the St. Vincent de Paul Society, North Sydney.
