SPEARS, Annie Caroline Sydney Annie Caroline Spears, 94, of Sydney, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2019, at the Cove Guest Home, Sydney. Born in Whitney Pier, she was the daughter of the late Nathaniel and Carrie (Thompson) Janes. Annie worked at the Royal Bank (George and Townsend), retiring in 1985. She loved spending time in Christmas Island with family and friends, as well as tending many hours to her garden. Always on the go, she volunteered her time driving people to meetings, picking up supplies for Branch 12 Legion and Club 55 and with the Salvation Army Kettle Fund. She was a former member of St. Albans Anglican Church, Whitney Pier and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12 Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as president, treasurer, secretary and over the years, spoke at local schools as a guest speaker during Remembrance Day. She was also a member of Club 55 Ways and Means and various dart and bowling leagues. Annie is survived by her daughter, Valerie (Jim) Burke, Boisdale; sons, John, Christmas Island and Blair (Glenda), Sydney; grandchildren, Elaine, Jason (Lisa), Virginia (David), Donald (Natasha), Candace, Chris (Alanna) and Carla (Corbin); great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Emmett, Rilyn, Gracie, Cameron and Chloe. She was predeceased by her husband, John; sisters, Florence (John) Crummey and Mildred Jones; and brothers Edward and Clarence. Special thanks to Glenda for the loving care she provided over the years. Thank you to Dr. Archibald for all his care and home visits over the years, the City Homemakers, all of whom she became very fond, as well as Victoria Haven Nursing Home and the Cove Guest Home for their outstanding care. You all went above and beyond, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Also, sincere thanks to Sandra, Millie, Pat, Kay, Marie and Ashley for being a godsend to me, Glenda, while Annie was at home. I can never thank you enough. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, October 11 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. Alban’s Anglican Church on Saturday, October 12 at 10 a.m., with Rev. Brenda Drake officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Memorials in memory of Annie may be made to the Cove Guest Home, the Salvation Army, the Veteran’s Fund, Loaves and Fishes or to a charity of your choice.
