Annie Agnes Macpherson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Annie MacPherson, on Saturday April 7, 2018 at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her family. Born in Framboise on October 28, 1938, she was daughter of the late ‘Red’ John and Mary Ann MacLeod. Annie was the loving wife of Donald Earl MacPherson, and amazing mother to Blair (Judi), Donald and Valerie (Charlie) Blair. She was the best mitten-making, cookie baking “Grandma/Granny” to Kent (Aeron), Robb (Robyn), Ryan (Anne), Kori (Jennifer), Holly, Rhiannon and Mary. She was “Great-Grammie” to Ethan, Haylea, Jude, Kelly, Owen, Blair, Blayke, Brody and Kayden. She is survived by sisters, Sadie MacIntyre, Peggy Mason, Dolena Brown, Donalda (Earl) Drysdale, Mary (Sonny) Blackmore and Marina (Ron) Seifried; brothers, Billy, Angus (Alice) and John James (Renee); sisters-in-law, Margaret and Mary Effie MacPherson, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters and their husbands, Effie (Lester) MacLeod, Evelyn (Peter) MacLeod and Christie (John) Holmes; brothers-in-law, Harry MacIntyre, Joseph Mason, Philip Brown, Fred, Norman and Allister MacPherson, and sisters-in-law, Christine MacLeod and Sarah MacPherson. Annie was very dedicated to her church and the community of Marion Bridge. She was a member of St. Columba Presbyterian Church where she served as treasurer of the ladies’ guild for many years and helped with various church activities over the years. She was a committed member of the Mira Seniors and Pensioner’s Club where she worked alongside her husband and their many friends to host card games, community suppers, and other events. Annie particularly enjoyed the Mira Gala when the yard was full of people, especially the little kids; she believed in the “More the Merrier” philosophy of life. In everything she was involved with, she was steadfast and true, always willing to lend to hand and take on any challenge in front of her with persistence, courage and grace. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 10 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at St. Columba Presbyterian Church, Marion Bridge. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 11 at 11 a.m. at St. Columba, Rev. Lydia MacKinnon officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. Any memorial donations may be made to St. Columba Presbyterian Church, Marion Bridge.
