Anastasia 'Nellie' Penney
PENNEY, Anastasia ‘Nellie’ It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our cherished mother, grandmother, sister, Anastasia ‘Nellie’ Penney, age 85, on October 5, 2019, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney River, NS. Mom passed peacefully with many of her family at her side. She was born on July 26, 1934 and was the daughter of the late Wasyl ‘William’ and Mary (Yurchesyn) Furdas. Nellie met the love of her life Clif, they enjoyed dancing together, beach days and going to Polar Bear. They married and raised their family in Sydney. Mom worked for many years as an accounting clerk for the Dept of Transportation. Family was everything to mom and after raising her children, her life revolved around being ‘Baba’ to her nine grandchildren, cherishing each one for their uniqueness and making them all feel so special. Mom was an avid gardener and a great crafts woman. She loved to sew, knit and crochet. Each winter, there would be new mittens, knit with love, for each grandchild. Mom would always welcome you into her home, be it in Sydney, or at the “bungalow” in Irish Vale with dad by her side. Nellie is survived by her children, Glenn (Nancy) Penney, Moncton, NB, Denise MacKenzie, Sydney, and Laura (John) Scott, Halifax, NS and her grandchildren, Chris (Michelle), Charlene (Yasha), Michelle (Dan), Lory, Jillian, Kaitlin, Madison, Ainslye and Jared. We are forever grateful to Shannon and Doreen for your kindness in caring for our mom. You are all truly wonderful caregivers and bring love and dignity to our elders in their final stages of life.
