Of Parrsboro, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 8, 2019 in South Cumberland Community Care Centre in Parrsboro, with Sharon by his side holding his hand. Alvin was born on September 4, 1928 to Mary and Louis Crossman (of Fraserville). He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Alvin started his working career in sawmills and woodlands at the young age of 13. Later he took a correspondence course and practical training in automotive and heavy equipment. He chose heavy equipment and did practical training in Toronto, Ont., in 1951. He worked as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator for RK Chapel then went on to be mechanic and Service Manager for Atmus Equipment. Alvin built several houses on nights and week-ends while still working. After retirement, he was a very talented craftsman and built many pieces of furniture for other people, plus furnished his own home with beautiful pieces. The pride of them all was his china cabinet. He was very successful in everything he chose to do as he believed in perfection in his work. Alvin was a hands-on Dad and family man. He will be remembered as a quiet, kind, caring gentleman with compassion for others; a man who will be missed greatly by everyone who knew him. Alvin is survived by the love of his life, Sharon; son, Malcolm, Shediac, N.B.; grandchildren, Corey Connors, Kentville; Karissa Connors, Berwick; son-in-law, Clarence Connors, Port Williams; as well as several nieces and nephews. Alvin was predeceased by his loving daughter, Kathy Connors; his sisters, Ethel Lamb, Shirley Pettis; brothers, Audrey, Ronald and Melvin. At Alvin's request there will be no visitation or funeral service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst, 902-667-9906.
