With great sadness we, the family of Alexander Francis Lovell, age 82, announce his passing on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Florence on August 13, 1936, Alex was the son of the late George and Alice (Carr) Lovell. Dad worked in the coal mines at Devco up to his retirement. He was past president of Branch 83 Legion, Florence, and was a life member. Dad’s first love in his life was his cherished wife Selena, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Then there was his music. Singing was a love to which he spread all over Cape Breton and surrounding areas, various other provinces, even as far as England. Dad is survived by his loving wife, Selena, who, on November 11, celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. Also left to mourn are his children, Alex Jr. (Corrine), North Sydney, Joann (Stewart MacLeod), Little Narrows, Velvet (Donald Gracie), Boularderie, and Yolanda (Bill Corke), BC; his grandchildren, Jason (Sheri) Jessome, Edmonton, Crystal and Matt Doyle, Halifax Blake (Meg) Gracie, Edmonton, Tyler (Joann Gracie), Ft. McMurray, and Kyle (Jennifer Gracie), Halifax, Kendy and Rodney Clowater, Edmonton, and Darion Corke, BC; his great-grandchildren, Ty, Storie, Tanner, Parker, Carsyn Jessome, Bria and Wyatt Doyle, Madison, O’Ryan, Quinn, Jordan, Sara Jane, Hope, Emma, Taylor, Austin and Jackson Gracie, and Tayte Clowater; brother, John (Carol); sisters, Helen (Percy) Jessome, Irene (Charles) Seymour, Colleen Seymour, Mary (Danny) Harrietha; sisters-in-law, Ruby and Georgina; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Alex was predeceased by his grandson, Patrick Jessome; mother and father-in law, William and Anna Mae Habicht; brothers, George and Elmer; sisters, Caroline Taylor, Joan Carey, Marie Harris; brothers-in-law, Charles Harris, Thomas (Echo) Carey, Bert Seymour, John Taylor; and five brothers in infancy. At Dad’s request, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will take place on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at 1 p.m. in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines. A reception will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Florence, following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alex’s memory may be made to the Autistic Society, or a charity of one’s choice. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
