Alexander Charles Haddon Crowe

CROWE, Alexander Charles Haddon Alexander Charles Haddon Crowe died peacefully at home on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at the age of 78 surrounded by his wife and children. Alex is survived by the love of his life, Linda, his wife of 54 years. He was born March 15, 1941, to Alexander and Evangeline Crowe, in Fredericton, NB, Canada; brother to three siblings, Beth, Sandra and Alan. Alex studied science at the Agricultural College in Truro, NS, and MacDonald College in Montreal, Quebec. He continued with Medicine at McGill University, Montreal. In 1969 he began his family medicine practice in Nova Scotia, settling in the Truro area. In 1995 he relocated to Bloomington, IL. Alex was very passionate about clinical medicine. Known as a caring and compassionate healer, he was a strong advocate for his patients. He was a physician leader and was one of 5 physicians to start the Coronary Care Unit in Truro. He loved to teach and was grateful for all of his McGill teachers. He had great respect for his medical and nursing colleagues and memorialized many of his exciting experiences in medicine in “Cradle to Grave; Memoirs of a Family Doctor” published in 2015. His greatest love was his family. He cherished his five children and ten grandchildren: Heidi (John Sapp), Halifax, NS; Alex (Jennifer Buglass), Aurora, IL; Jonathan (Anneke Huizer), Dillon, Colorado; Sarah Jane (predeceased) and Robert, Arlington, Virginia. He was known lovingly as “Grandpa Crowe” to Alexander, Robert, David and Felicity Sapp; “Papa” to Andrew, Anna and Alex and “Buckle” to Jac, Hannah and Mary Grace. Alex had a great love of life and nature. In addition to family, he had many hobbies including singing, fishing, gardening, hunting, woodworking, skiing, reading, writing and travel. Alex’s life was guided by a strong Christian faith. The celebration of his life was held Monday, October 14, at 11 a.m. at Second Presbyterian Church, Bloomington, IL. Visitation was held one hour before at 10 am. Cremation rites were accorded. Internment to be at a later date at Crossroads Cemetery, Valley, Nova Scotia, Canada. The family is grateful for the heartfelt care provided by Dr. Ray, Dr. Sriratana and the staff at the Community Cancer Center and Advocate at Home and Hospice.
