YARMOUTH. N.S. – The RCMP in Yarmouth have charged a 24-year-old Lunenburg County man with several charges, including robbery with violence and theft of a motor vehicle following an alleged incident in Yarmouth on Nov. 9.
Gary Junior Wamboldt, 24, of Upper Lahave, Lunenburg County, has been charged and will appear in court on Nov. 13. He was remanded into custody following his arrest.
According to an RCMP media release, just before noon on Friday, Nov. 9, a 67-year-old woman was getting into her vehicle in the parking lot of a grocery store in Yarmouth. A man approached her, pulled her out of her vehicle, threw her to the ground and took her purse and cell phone. The RCMP say he then sped off in her vehicle.
The woman was assisted by a passerby who helped her and called 911. She was treated at the scene by EHS for minor injuries.
According to the RCMP, in the process of leaving the parking lot the suspect struck another vehicle on Starrs Road with the stolen car and did not stop. The person continued on through Route 3, towards Arcadia, and nearly struck a worker at a road construction site. The RCMP say the suspect then continued towards Tusket and was involved in a single-vehicle collision on Hwy. 308. Witnesses told police they saw the suspect running into the woods.
RCMP officers contained the scene of the collision and a suspect surrendered to police a short time later. He was arrested without incident.
According to the RCMP media release, he was showing signs of being impaired by a drug and police read him a demand to be tested by a Drug Recognition Expert. The man refused the test.

• Drug-Impaired Driving
• Fail to Comply with a Drug Recognition Expert Demand
• Fail to Remain at the Scene of a Collision
• Breach of Conditions (3 counts)
• Dangerous Driving (2 counts)
He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to attend Yarmouth Provincial Court on Nov. 13.
The investigation is ongoing.
