WINDSOR, N.S. — Standing waist deep in a hole on King Street, Windsor and West Hants public works employees are busy working side-by-side on a summertime water main improvement project.
Troy Burgess, the acting director of Windsor’s public works department, says it’s the first time the two municipal units have come together in such a fashion.
“We’ve worked together on water breaks and some things but this is really the first project that we’ve done with our staff intermixed,” said Burgess.
“It’s going great.”
Staff working on July 11 at the site confirmed the working relationship was going well.
The project in question involves a 200-metre stretch, located on King Street between Victoria and Gerrish streets. The two departments are in the process of replacing a water main and then laying new asphalt. The water main portion of the project is anticipated to wrap up by July 21. The asphalt replacement will be dependent on when the company that’s been hired to do that work can arrive.
“Every year we try to do an in-house project with our staff. We find it’s much cheaper to do it that way,” said Burgess.
Last year, Windsor tackled Tremain Crescent, the year before that it was Albert Street.
The price tag for this water main replacement is $225,000; $99,000 of which is for the asphalt part.
