Significant drug seizure results from Wolfville traffic stop

WOLFVILLE, NS – A man has been arrested and charged with possessing drugs for the purpose of trafficking after being stopped going the wrong way on a one-way street.

A member of the Kings District RCMP stopped a vehicle on Linden Avenue in Wolfville on Nov. 9 at 7:45 p.m. The vehicle had been driving the wrong way on a one-way street.

According to a news release, when the driver got out of the vehicle, a plastic bag containing crack cocaine fell from his clothing. The police officer arrested him without incident for drug possession.

The man was searched incidental to arrest and police located three more bags of cocaine and a bag of marijuana. The vehicle was then searched and more cocaine and marijuana were found. Police also located drug paraphernalia, a knife and cash.

In total, 51g of crack cocaine and 226g of marijuana were seized as a result of the traffic stop.

The driver, 20-year-old Daniel Obiang of Wolfville, is facing charges of possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possessing marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. Obiang was released from custody later that evening and is scheduled to appear in Kentville provincial court on Jan. 16.
