BRIDGETOWN, N.S. - There were motor-vehicle accidents, deer on the highway, break-ins, and whiskey shoplifted in Annapolis County, and Annapolis District RCMP dealt with all of them during the week of Nov. 5 to 12.
Following are some of the highlights:
Nov. 6, 2018
CLEMENTSPORT: Annapolis District RCMP responded to a call of a suspicious person. The caller could see someone behind the neighbour’s house with a flashlight. It ended up being the caretaker of the property.
SPRINGFIELD: A caller reported someone tried to break in to his seasonal residence. RCMP attended and noted the lock was broken on the door. No access was gained and nothing was missing.
BRIDGETOWN: RCMP responded to a shoplifting call at the NSLC. The suspect took a 1.75 litre bottle of Alberta Premium Whiskey and a 750 millilitre bottle of Jack Daniels Whiskey. Video surveillance was obtained by the RCMP. The suspect is described as early 20s, wearing a grey Honda ball cap, black hoodie, blue jeans, blue T-shirt, carrying a Sobeys reusable shopping bag. RCMP is requesting if the public has any knowledge of this subject’s identify, report to Annapolis District RCMP.
MIDDLETON: A caller reported someone went into her unlocked vehicle parked at the nursing home. Her wallet and a small bag of change were taken. RCMP reminds the public to always lock vehicles and keep valuables out of sight.
Nov. 7, 2018
BRIDGETOWN: RCMP responded to a motor-vehicle collision on Highway 101. A tractor-trailer and a second vehicle had stopped for road construction. Unfortunately, a third vehicle did not. There was damage to all vehicles and the drivers in the second and third vehicles were transported by EHS to the hospital with minor injuries.
FOREST GLADE: A break-in occurred at a residence on this date between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. A few items were stolen but the suspects seemed to take more enjoyment out of damaging the property than stealing items. RCMP is asking the public if they noted anything suspicious in the area during this time, contact the Annapolis District RCMP.
Nov. 8, 2018
BRIDGETOWN: A caller reported someone trying to gain access to his apartment while he was home. Someone knocked at the door and tried to open it but could not gain entry because it was locked. Patrols were made in the area but whomever was trying their hand at ‘knock-knock’ had departed.
WILMOT: A motor-vehicle collision was reported. Vehicle #2 failed to stop and hit vehicle #1 from behind. Apparently, the driver sneezed causing a momentary loss of attention and a rear-end impact to the car in front.
MIDDLETON: Gunshots were heard and reported in the area. RCMP made a patrol and believed the sounds were coming from the adjacent field where hunters are known to go.
Nov. 9, 2018
FOREST GLADE: A caller said he came home to find his inside door kicked in, house ransacked and mattresses moved. Neighbourhood inquires by RCMP noted earlier that morning a male and female came to a door asking for a drink of water. The investigation is ongoing and police are requesting the public to report anything suspicious they may have noted in the area on this date.
CLEMENTSVALE: A rather hot bus was reported - it was on fire! An investigation found the fire started as a result of a youth playing with matches. The owner of the bus did not press charges.
MIDDLETON: A cannabis search warrant was executed. Cannabis plants were seized as more than the allotted number were found. No charges were laid and RCMP will have those additional plants destroyed.
UPPER GRANVILLE: A deer crossing the highway was struck by an eastbound vehicle. While the vehicle sustained some damage, luckily the driver was ok. The status of the deer is unknown.
WILMOT: Another vehicle/deer collision was reported. This time a deer crossed in front of an ambulance. There was no damage to the vehicle but regrettably, even with EHS being right on scene, the deer succumbed to its injuries.
INGLEWOOD: A caller reported a vehicle went off the road and into a field. RCMP made a patrol and located two intoxicated females. One of the females was the owner of the car and open liquor was found on the driver’s side. There is no evidence at this time to support who was driving but they weren’t getting off that easy. Tickets were issued to both parties to a tune of $467.50 each. The public is reminded open alcohol cannot be in the vehicle as per section 78 of the Liquor Control Act.
Nov. 10, 2018
NEW ALBANY: A four-wheeler accident with injuries was reported. RCMP responded to find the driver with head injuries. The driver was also intoxicated and transported to hospital. Investigation is ongoing.
