WINDSOR, N.S. — Past and present volunteer firefighters once again joined forces with Windsor Rotary Club members to raise money for the Matthew 25 Windsor and District Food Bank.
On Oct. 20, the groups participated in the annual Windsor Rotary Club toll road, stopping vehicles along the busy Wentworth Road.
A total of $7,382.87 was collected, with the Rotary topping up the amount to an even $8,000.
“Windsor Rotary supports the food bank by making a generous donation over and above the money collected at the toll road, made possible because of the toonies you play in the Windsor Rotary Community Toonie 50/50 draw,” said Windsor firefighter Jonathan DeMont, who is chairman of the toll road fundraiser and a past-president of the Windsor Rotary Club, in a message following the successful fundraiser.
It’s the highest amount ever raised during the six-hour toll road, he said.
The Windsor Rotary Community Toonie 50/50 draw is held on Wednesdays. Participants register to receive a number for life. That number is entered into the weekly draw. The cost to play is $2 per week. If the number is drawn and the participant paid the weekly $2 fee, they receive half of the pot. If the person didn’t pay in advance of the draw, the prize amount is rolled over to the next week.
