With the arrival of February comes an annual VON fundraiser that has become a favourite mid-winter activity for a lot of people.
The organization’s chocolate lunch – whose proceeds help the VON with its community support programs – will take place Friday, Feb. 8, at the Yarmouth Lions Club hall.
As usual, there will be three sittings, the first starting at 11 a.m.
Sandra Hubbard-LeBlanc, program co-ordinator with VON Tri-County (adult day program, transportation program and caregiver support), says the event is pretty popular.
“People love to attend this event, not only for the delicious food, or for the chance to be out and about in February,” Hubbard-LeBlanc said, “but also because they know they’re directly contributing to the VON’s community programs ... All of these programs positively support many people in our communities. It’s not often you get to eat chocolate and help others at the same time.”
Once again, the chocolate lunch menu includes rappie pie, as well as the tasty chocolate desserts from which the fundraiser gets its name.
The cost is $10 per person and the sittings at the Lions Club hall are scheduled for 11 a.m., 12 noon and 1 p.m.
For businesses placing orders of three or more meals, delivery can be arranged. Delivery will be between 11:30 a.m. and noon. Payment must be in advance. There is an option to pay with Visa over the phone.
The deadline for purchasing tickets for the chocolate lunch is Feb. 4, but Hubbard-LeBlanc says people may phone the VON office (902-742-4512, ext. 0) beyond this date to see if there is still availability.
The VON’s chocolate lunch normally is held the Friday before Valentine’s Day, although an exception to this happened a couple of years ago when, due to weather concerns, the event took place a week later than usual.
