FALMOUTH, N.S. — The Windsor District RCMP were at Falmouth District School on the afternoon of May 21 and put the building on a “hold and secure” procedure after discovering ‘threatening graffiti’ on school property.
The lockdown was lifted shortly after and the RCMP tweeted that there was no active threat at the school.
Cpl. Lisa Croteau, public information officer with the RCMP, said the investigation is ongoing.
Kristen Lloyst, communications officer with the Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education said in a statement that the graffiti was located on the school’s playground, adding that the school administration notified the RCMP as a precaution.
A “Hold and Secure” involves locking all external entrances to the building and controlling building access while classes and inside activities continue as usual, Lloyst said.
These responses are practiced as part of school emergency procedures.
“Shortly after checking the school and playground, RCMP confirmed the school could return to regular activities,” Lloyst said. “A note was sent home to parents and guardians to let them know about these events, and the school is continuing to cooperate with RCMP.”
Lloyst said the school is working to have the graffiti cleaned up as soon as possible.
