The slogan “community is bigger than cancer” was definitely on display in Windsor June 1.

Dozens of cancer survivors and people of all ages looking to support finding a cure attend the 11th annual Hants West Relay for Life.

The event took place at the Hants County Exhibition Grounds in Windsor from 6 p.m. until midnight.

A total of $14,523 was raised.

Eight teams participated and collectively raised $5,100.25. The Windsor Pharmasavers topped the Tumouraters by only 76 cents to take the number one spot, not that it’s a competition. The WFD Sparkys managed to raise an astounding $793.50 despite only having two members on their team.

Walkers were able to go well into the night thanks to clear skies and minimal winds. Numbers started to decrease as the night went on, but those who were able to stayed for the last lap.

Live music was put on by local band the Fret Notes. They played for the majority of the event, interacting with the crowd and keeping those who weren’t walking entertained.

The Hants West Relay for Life was the first of many taking place across the province in the month of June.
