Emergency department closures at Shelburne and Digby emergency departments

SOUTHWESTERN NS –The Nova Scotia Health Authority is advising the public of numerous emergency department closures on Thursday, Dec. 6 and Friday, Dec. 7.

All of the closures are due to the lack of physician availability.

The emergency department at Roseway Hospital in Shelburne closed on Dec. 6 at 6 a.m. and will reopen at 8 p.m.

Digby General Hospital’s Emergency Department closed at 6 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6 at 6 a.m. and will open at 8 p.m. On Friday, Dec. 7, it will be closed from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Digby department also saw closures on Monday and Tuesday of this week.

The Annapolis Community Health Centre’s Collaborative Emergency Centre (CEC) closed Thursday, Dec. 6, at 8 a.m. and will reopen at 8 p.m. On Friday, Dec. 7, it will be closed from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Anyone with urgent medical needs should call 911, particularly if experiencing unusual symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest tightness, abdominal pain, persistent headache or dizziness, or an injury requiring stitches or involving a broken bone.

For general health advice and information call 811, which is a service offered 24 hours a day, seven days a week by experienced registered nurses.
