A well-known shipping and courier company has been charged with bringing contraband liquor into the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
When the case of FedEx Canada was called in provincial court in St. John’s this morning, the company was represented by defence lawyer Heidi Wells.
Wells told Judge Pamela Goulding that she was recently retained and was waiting to receive the evidence file from the Crown.
She and prosecutor Sheldon Steeves agreed to set the case over until June 27.
FedEx faces one charge under the Newfoundland Liquor Control Act: possessing, purchasing, storing, transporting or selling contraband liquor.
It was laid after a quantity of wine, which was shipped from British Columbia, was found in Torbay on March 7. The quantity has not been disclosed.
