RCMP are investigating after human remains were found in a remote area of Hants County Monday afternoon.

Windsor RCMP were contacted at about 2 p.m. by someone who had found human remains in a heavily wooded area on Moses Mountain in Mill Section. The community is about 12 kilometres south of Windsor on Highway 14.

Cpl. Lisa Croteau said the remains have been sent for an autopsy and have not been positively identified.

She said the remains were at the bottom of a steep embankment off a trail on the mountain, a popular destination for hiking and rock climbing. She didn't say how they were discovered or by who.

Croteau didn't have any information on whether there was an indication of how long the remains had been in the woods or whether there was anything that would give a clue to the person's identity.

She also didn't know whether there was any indication of foul play.
