BRIDGETOWN, N.S. - The ghostly cows appeared again, break-and-enters were reported, and lots of unlicensed drivers kept Annapolis District RCMP busy for the last week of September.
The book store in Bridgetown was vandalised, the vet clinic was targeted again, and Temple on Queen was entered and vandalised.
There are the highlights of RCMP calls Sept. 24 to 29:
Sept. 24, 2018
-- Annapolis District RCMP wants to remind the public that you do need a driver’s license to drive a car! RCMP stopped a vehicle in Bridgetown and not only did the driver not have the vehicle registered or insured, he did not have a license. The driver left on foot with a handful of expensive parting gifts!
-- RCMP went to a business in Middleton in response to more counterfeit bills. Luckily the bills were completely legit this time.
-- There’s an ongoing issue at a bus stop in Wilmot. A complainant did not like the fact parents were parking on his property, leaving cigarette butts, etc. The issue was addressed with the school board and the bus stop has been moved just down the road.
Sept. 25, 2018
-- A teacher at Annapolis reported that her phone was stolen off her desk on this day. The investigation still to locate the missing phone is ongoing.
-- “Who let the dogs out…again?” A group of teens in a Dodge Neon in Middleton did! The complainant stated that a dog ran out of that vehicle and toward her dog. The teens felt somehow this was her fault, turned to her yelling profanities. It was unfortunate and uncalled for especially since her young daughter was present. RCMP made an immediate patrol but the vehicle could not be located.
Sept. 26, 2018
-- Police received a report of an abandoned vehicle in Spa Springs. The vehicle was not going to be stolen in the near future – it had no windshield, no plate, no driver seat, and no engine! The owner arrived and said he had been towing it to the dump when his sway bar broke. The vehicle was towed and brought to its final resting place.
-- Another driver apparently forgot that he needed a license to drive! This driver was stopped in Middleton. The vehicle was not insured and a ticket for $2,422.50 was issued along with a ticket for driving a motor vehicle while his license suspended.
-- Shortly thereafter, another vehicle was stopped in Middleton as well. The vehicle’s plate was for another vehicle. That fine was $237.50 but it got worse for the driver. He did not have insurance or a license either and it wasn’t his first time being caught. Maybe after receiving this ticket for $5,872.50 he will understand the importance of having a license and insurance.
-- A caller reported an abandoned vehicle in Lakeville. The vehicle had been parked by the portapottie for more than a week. RCMP attended and thank goodness, no one was in the portapottie for that long! The vehicle was broken down and the owner was just waiting for repair.
-- You thought there was Llama Drama? Now we have ghostly cows again this week. The cows arose from the river, coasted through the graveyard, and headed toward the road. Members of the public moooooved the cows away to the “udder” side so they would not go on the road.
-- RCMP went Clementsport after receiving a report of an attempted break and enter. A small window was broken at the caller’s rental property. Luckily nothing was taken or destroyed.
Sept. 27, 2018
-- A two-vehicle accident in Wilmot was reported. Vehicle #2 attempted to pass vehicle #1 but did not see that vehicle #1 had a signal light on to turn and collided with the vehicle. There were minor injuries to the drivers but moderate damage to both vehicles.
-- Another break-in was reported by the vet clinic in Bridgetown. Luckily this time, they did not gain entry. It appears the new bolt lock they had installed after the last break-in was tampered with. RCMP are requesting members of the public be diligent in reporting any suspicious persons or activity they see in the area.
-- Another motor vehicle accident was reported, this time in Centrelea. The driver admitted to falling asleep. This resulted in the vehicle leaving the road and going into a field. This power snooze unfortunately cost the driver $3,500 in damage. Luckily he remained uninjured.
-- Due to a citizen of Bridgetown being vigilant and reporting suspicious activity, lumber thieves were caught! The person saw a brown Ford truck drive by her home with an empty truck bed and then could hear what sounded like lumber being loaded into the truck. The truck drove back now with a full load of lumber. RCMP members made an immediate patrol and located the truck and occupants. All occupants were arrested for possession of stolen property.
-- The dogs were getting out everywhere this week! A caller reported a black dog standing in the middle of the road in Inglewood and impeding traffic. The dog’s owner was located and retrieved his four-legged friend.
Sept. 28, 2018
-- Another on-line fraud was reported by a resident in Granville Ferry. RCMP again reminding the public about ongoing scams requesting large amounts of money to be sent to unknown persons or large amounts of money to be held. Do not give personal information out. RCMP advise the public about identity theft and how easy it can happen if personal is information provided to unknown persons.
Sept. 29, 2018
-- A break-and-enter into a book store in Bridgetown resulted in thousands of dollars of damage as well. A computer monitor and keyboard were taken, a fire extinguisher sprayed, and several items smashed. RCMP are requesting any information on this break-in to be immediately reported to the Annapolis District RCMP. The Temple on Queen was also broken into as well. Video surveillance was seized and the investigation ongoing.
-- A bull in the middle of the road in Middleton was reported. RCMP responded and the animal appeared “moooody.” The officer convinced the beast it was best to go back to pasture to which it agreed and returned unharmed.
-- Theft of a four-wheeler was reported in Bridgetown. The complainant reported that he parked his red Honda by the pit at Tim Horton’s a week ago and it is now gone. An investigation ongoing and RCMP again ask the public with any information on the missing four-wheeler to contact the Annapolis District RCMP.
