KENTVILLE, N.S. — A Wolfville man will serve a two-year federal sentence after pleading guilty to child pornography charges and failing to comply with probation.

Dwayne Edward McEachern, 46, pleaded guilty in February to charges of possessing child pornography, failing to comply with probation and making child pornography available. The matters were adjourned to April 16 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.

Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek sentenced McEachern to 18 months in custody for possessing child porn, an additional 45 days for failing to comply with probation and 13 months in jail, to be served consecutively, for making child pornography available.

McEachern was granted a credit of eight and a half months for time spent remanded in custody, leaving 24 months to serve going forward. This will be followed by three years of probation. The court imposed a lifetime Sex Offender Information Registration Act (SOIRA) order against McEachern and granted DNA orders in relation to the child pornography offences.

The court granted a forfeiture order for offence-related property, including a laptop computer, a desktop computer, USB device, two hard drives, a cell phone, photographs of females, several VHS tapes, DVD’s and CD’s.

McEachern committed the offences in Wolfville between July 1 and Oct. 30, 2016; between July 1 and Sept. 16, 2016, and between Aug. 18 and 20, 2018. A charge of resisting arrest was withdrawn on April 16.

In September 2015, McEachern was sentenced to six months in custody to be followed by a year of probation and was fined $300 in victim surcharges after pleading guilty to three charges. These included committing extortion by threatening a person to post nude photos of her on the internet with the intent of obtaining additional nude photos, possessing child pornography videos and images and failing to comply with his recognizance by possessing a device capable of storing data or images.
