WENTWORTH CREEK, N.S. — West Hants is looking to acquire provincial-owned land for what council says will benefit the entire region.

Following a private session of council Dec. 11, council voted to direct the CAO to enter into a land purchase agreement with the Province of Nova Scotia to purchase a plot of land plus portions of five other parcels.

Further, the CAO was directed to carry out the necessary appraisal and survey requirements before purchasing the land. Funding for that work would come from the operating reserve.

Warden Abraham Zebian and chief administrative officer Martin Laycock remained tight-lipped about the pending purchase in an interview following the meeting at 11 p.m.

Zebian and Laycock said they couldn’t comment on where the land is located or what its future purpose will be.

“You’ll have to look up the PID,” said Zebian. “It will benefit the whole region in every way.”

The motion of council listed several property identification numbers. The main property West Hants is looking to purchase, PID 45245578, is located near the existing West Hants Landfill (also known as the Cogmagun Landfill) along the Walton Woods Road. The appraised value of the main parcel of land is listed as $764,100. The five other portions they’re negotiating to purchase are nearby, each varying in appraised value.
