WINDSOR, N.S. — Tenants of an Underwood Drive apartment complex had their evening plans temporarily disrupted April 9 after a fire in one of the units resulted in them being evacuated.
Around 8:13 p.m., Windsor firefighters were alerted to a fire that was possibly in the wall of one of the apartments on the third floor.
“We were met by one of the tenants who actually shut the power off to the apartment ahead of us getting here, which was helpful,” said Jamie Juteau, Windsor’s fire chief.
“We found a small fire inside a wall.”
Juteau said there wasn’t enough smoke being generated to set off the fire alarm so he pulled it to evacuate the building as firefighters responded to the scene.
Juteau said damage to the apartment was minor, however, the tenant is displaced for at least the night.
Firefighters also had to force entry to one of the nearby apartments.
By 9 p.m., the evacuation order was lifted.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Windsor’s fire inspector has been called in to review some potential fire code issues.
