NEW MINAS, N.S. - A Kings District RCMP member is under investigation in relation to an allegation of domestic assault.
“No charges have been laid, so we cannot release the name,” said provincial RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jennifer Clarke Dec. 13.
“The member is suspended with pay.”
Nova Scotia’s Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) announced that the independent organization is investigating an allegation that a male member based at the New Minas detachment committed domestic assault.
The investigation stems from information shared with Kings District RCMP Nov. 24, a media release issued by SiRT Dec. 12 said.
“A call was received by the Kings District RCMP from a third party regarding an allegation of assault against a female by the RCMP member, who was her boyfriend,” SiRT’s statement reads.
“As a result, the male was arrested, and in accordance with the Police Act, RCMP referred the incident to (SiRT), which assumed responsibility for the investigation.”
The member in question has been released from custody on conditions. He is scheduled to appear in Kentville provincial court Jan. 29, 2019.
SiRT’s prepared statement says the investigation into the domestic abuse allegation continues.
“SiRT is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia, which may result in the laying of a criminal charge,” the release explains.
